Surfers Paradise

Well, it's pretty sweet to be able to drive for less than an hour to reach some of the best waves for surfing in the world. Taking advantage of a long weekend and a very slow start to classes, I went out to the Gold Coast for the day with four of my classmates. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. The beach seemed to extend forever and we took full advantage of it. I had a chance to try out some surfing but I wasn't able to stand on the board for more than a second or two. I don't know how those guys can balance on the board. I was having trouble trying not to slip off the board while paddling around on my stomach. Kneeling on the board didn't prove to be much easier either. After an hour of struggling in the ocean and swallowing some salty sea water in the process, I called it quits. It was actually a pretty tiring cycle of waiting for a decent wave, then paddling like crazy and trying to hop up on the surf board to catch the wave. Maybe next time I'm out there I will take some lessons...
