It's December!

December has finally come and that means two things are just around the corner: Christmas and Finals. I am definitely looking forward to being finished with this school and to get a nice 3 week break to just chill out and get some snowboarding in.

Speaking of snowboarding, today was my first day volunteering for CADS (Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing) http://www.cadscalgary.ca . It runs from 7-9pm on Friday evenings at Canada Olympic Park. Before today I had no idea what I would be doing. I knew I was to help out with the learning disabled group but I didn't know what student or students I would be working with and what other instructors I would be grouped with.

It was a zoo when I arrived at around 6:40pm. There were kids and adults everywhere and I wasn't sure if everyone was there for CADS. I'd say there were well over 100 students there and even more instructors. I did manage to find my to sign in, get my lift ticket, and find out what I was supposed to do. They assigned me to help out an instructor named Janine (I think that was her name) with a first time snowboarder named Matt. But Janine didn't show so I ended up working with Matt one on one which was awesome. We talked about all kinds of things like sports and video games. He had an X-Box at home and loved to play Halo. He told me that this Christmas he is hoping to get Halo 2 from Santa. I told him if he behaved himself that there would be a pretty good chance of that happening. Matt was an extremely fast learner and before long he could almost side slip down the slope on both his heel edge and his toe edge without any assistance.

Anyway, I had a blast and it was just so cool to see him having a great time out there. I think he might be thinking about asking Santa to swap up Halo 2 for a snowboard. Next week it looks I will be working with another guy named Diego who is around my age. Apparently he is a pretty good rider so that should be a lot of fun. I was a bit disappointed that I was moved because I had such a great time with Matt and I was looking forward to watching him progress and develop. We got along so well and I hate to hand him off to someone else. I will definitely have to keep an eye on him and see how he does over the season.

Well, time for me to get some stuff done. This weekend I've really got to nail down some solid studying and also finish up some preparations for our church Christmas celebration in a week. I've been really tired lately so here are some extremely cute photos of some awkward resting positions.

Falling asleep while standing...I've done this on the train a few times but while holding onto something. Posted by Hello

Falling asleep in a shoe...I have to say this is something I've never done before. Wouldn't the smell wake you up? This baby must have been tired! Posted by Hello
